It is the responsibility of anyone planning an event or programming to ensure that materials and technology are accessible. Materials are the primary means of information distribution before, during, and after an event or program, so a lack of accessibility in this area can make participation and engagement very challenging or in some cases impossible. Ideally materials will be created to be accessible from the start, but sometimes materials can also be remediated if they are inaccessible.

It should be noted that how you create materials that are accessible largely depend on the software you are using. For instance, creating an accessible Word document involves different practices than creating an accessible PDF. If you are new to creating accessible materials, we recommend that you being with using Microsoft Office. Not only are these products available to the UNH Community, but they also have built in accessibility features that are consistent and easy to use. For instance, both Word and PowerPoint both include very similar ways to create headings, alt-text, and have accessibility checkers. There are also a wide range of training materials available to help you get started.
